Royal Navy
The Royal Navy has played a major role in the UK’s affairs for many hundreds of years. It continues to do so, defending the nation's interests and acting as a force for good in the world.
With 42,400 servicemen and civilians, the Royal Navy comprises of some 124 ships, 200 aircraft and 6,000 Royal Marines.
The Royal Navy has in recent times been involves in:
- Conflicts and peacekeeping (Afghanistan, Sierra Leone, Iraq)
- UN sanctions enforcement (Arabian Gulf)
- Humanitarian relief (Caribbean hurricanes, Mozambique)
- Anti-drugs patrols (Caribbean and elsewhere)
- Search and rescue (Boscastle)
- Patrolling our fishing grounds and oilfields
- Helping the community (Foot and Mouth crisis)
