Royal Air Force

With 53,700 staff, the Royal Air Force is responsible for protecting the UK's airspace and supporting the Royal Navy and Air Force in peacetime and combat.

The RAF is currently deployed in the Falkland Islands, Northern Ireland, the Balkans, Afghanistan and Iraq.

Wolverhampton and the surrounding area has a rich aviation history with the former air bases of RAF Perton and RAF Pendeford close by.

RAF Cosford, located 10 miles west of the city, is a major training facility for the Royal Air Force. The air base also houses a national museum collection of military aircraft and missiles as well as civilian aircraft.

Today, the aerospace industry is a significant sector in the economy of Wolverhampton with several major corporations located in the city.
