Street care and cleaning performance

Street scene

In order to continue improving Street Scene Services, we monitor and track our levels of performance and listen to your views.

This information helps us to check whether our services are:

  • working effectively
  • meeting our service standards
  • improving the environment of Wolverhampton.

Our standards

We aim to:

  • Resolve street cleaning enquiries within 2 working days
  • Resolve grounds maintenance enquiries within 5 working days
  • Resolve autumn leaf fall enquiries within 5 working days
  • Resolve gully enquiries within 5 working days
  • Resolve new and replacement litter bin enquiries within 3 weeks.

Current performance

Our current performance levels for resolving enquiries within our standards can be downloaded below.

We monitor our performance every month and we were not happy with our performance during the months of May and June 2008. We put this right straight away and the number of enquiries resolved within our standards shown above soon improved.

Breakdown of reports

Around 6,000 people contacted us between 1 April 2008 to 31 March 2009 to report street care and cleaning issues.

We responded to all of the requests as shown below:

  • 1,640 Graffiti
  • 1,063 Fly tipping 
  • 1,060 Litter  
  • 395 Blocked gullies 
  • 321 Out of hours emergency call outs
  • 281 Dog mess
  • 182 Dead animals (includes 11 dead birds)
  • 182 Grass cutting
  • 163 New and replacement litter bins
  • 162 Spillages and debris from road accidents
  • 147 Autumn leaf fall
  • 112 Hedge Cutting 
  • 74 Flower/rose/shrub beds
  • 54 Weed control
  • 51 Syringes (over 884 individual syringes collected)

Call analysis

The majority of people choose to contact us by by telephone or email. All enquiries and service requests are recorded. 

Callers expressing dissatisfaction with Street Scene Services were recorded as complaints. Callers expressing satisfaction were recorded as compliments.

This gives us a true indication of customer satisfaction as many dissatisfied customers do not make a complaint through the council's corporate complaint procedure.
