Witnessing fly tipping
If you witness an incident of fly tipping, never put yourself at risk by confronting the offenders.
The best thing you can do is make a note of vital information that can be used in making a report to the Council.
What to note
If you are a witness to fly tipping, try and make note the following:
- The day, date and time you saw the tipping take place
- What you saw
- How many people were fly tipping and their description(s)
- What they were actually doing
- Any vehicles involved – the make, model, colour and registration number
- Where you were when you saw the fly tipping
- What kind of view you had
- How far away you were
and the weather and light conditions at the time
- What did you see being tipped
- How much was tipped
- What it looked like
If you did not have time or could not remember all the details above, make the report anyway - your information could still be very useful.
Making a report
So the Council can investigate, you need to report the incident to us.
Once we have received a report, an trained Enforcement Office will then investigate.
