Discovering fly tipping
If you discover fly tipped materials, make sure you follow the guidelines below for your own safety and protection.
It may not be clear what has been fly tipped and the waste could contain dangerous chemicals or materials such as asbestos which could cause harm or injury.
Guidelines
There are four points which will help you make a report to us and keep you safe.
1. Do not touch or disturb the waste
Fly tipped waste can all too frequently be dangerous. It may contain syringes, broken glass, asbestos, toxic chemicals or other hazardous substances. Never try to remove it yourself.
2. Look at the waste
From observation only, try to see what waste consists of and how much there is
3. Note the exact location
Make a carefully make a note of the exact location of the material and whether standing in or close to water or drainage.
4. Do not disturb the site
There may be evidence that could help identify the culprits and lead to their prosecution.
Making a report
Once you've collected the required information, report the fly tipping incident to us.
If you witness tipping taking place, ensure that you give us any additional information which could help.
Your report will then be investigated by a trained Enforcement Officer.
