Dead animals

The council collect free of charge all dead animals reported on the:

  • Footway
  • Highway
  • Public right of way
  • Public open areas (includes parks and playgrounds)
  • Council owned car parks
  • Closed churchyards 

To request the removal of a dead animal contact us.

Dead birds

In all instances contact us for advice. When necessary, the council will contact DEFRA to determine the appropriate action to be taken.

What animals will the council remove from gardens?

The council will remove the following animals found in a garden:

  • large wild animals, such as a fox, badger, large rat etc free of charge
  • domestic animals, such as a cat or dog not owned by you free of charge.

What animals will we not remove from gardens?

The council will not remove:

  • pets - Contact a vet for advice about disposing of a pet
  • small animals - See information about small dead animals such as a mouse, hedgehog, small garden bird etc. 

Dead animals on commercial premises

The council does not remove dead animals free of charge.

If you find a dead animal on commercial or industrial premises inform the owner. If you are the owner contact us and the council will give you a quote for the removal and disposal of dead animal.
