Recycling bins for flats

Recycling for residents in hard to reach areas

If you live in a narrow road, flat or tower block, you can now take part in our recycling schemes for garden and dry waste.

Find out below how you can take part in the schemes and how to request recycling containers.

Garden waste recycling

If you live in a flat, you can take part in the garden waste recycling scheme.

To be a part of the scheme, you must to take responsibility for the garden waste bin and place it on the footpath at the edge of the property by 7am on the day of collection.

How do I request a garden waste recycling bin?

To enquire about or request a garden waste bin and take part, contact City Direct.

Green box recycling

If you live in a two storey flat, you can take part in the green box recycling scheme.

To enquire about or to be a part of the scheme, contact City Direct.

We will send you a disclaimer letter explaining that you must not take the box above ground level. If you do take the box above ground level the council will not be responsible.

If you agree to the disclaimer you will receive a dry waste recycling box. You must take responsibility for the waste bin and placing it on the footpath at the edge of the property by 7am on the day of collection.

How do I request a green box?

What will I be able to recycle?

You will be able to recycle:

  • paper - including magazines, junk mail, newspepers and white office paper
  • metal - including food tins, other tins, drinks cans, aerosols and foil
  • glass - including beer bottles, spirit bottles, wine bottles, jars and other bottles.

When will the scheme be in place?

It will take up to 4 months to put the scheme in place. By April 2008 all hard to reach properties will have access to recycling facilities.

Recycling containers will be easily recognisable as they are red with black lids. They will be placed in a suitable and accessible location for all residents.
