Contaminated Land Team
What we do
The main duties of our team are to:
- implement and enforce Part IIa of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 through the Contaminated Land Strategy. This includes a city-wide inspection to determine whether any land is contaminated. If any contamination is found we ensure that the problem is resolved
- maintain a public register of contaminated land, should any sites become determined contaminated under the Act
- provide guidance on contaminated land issues to our planning department in respect of developments throughout the city
- analyse site investigations and oversee schemes to remove contamination
- monitor landfill sites for gas emissions and ensure the sites remain in a safe condition
- provide an environmental enquiry service to supply land quality information for anyone who requests a search to be carried out. This includes the public, solicitors, developers and consultants.
