Bowmans Harbour Repository case study
Bowmans Harbour Repository Wednesfield
Following completion of the creation of a waste repository in 1997 the site has been closed to the public. During this period of time we have been considering the best way to deal with problems that we discovered about a year after the works were completed.
With the help of our environmental advisors we have developed a scheme which will address these issues. We are also hoping to be able to give some controlled public access.
Subject to obtaining the appropriate approvals the works will begin on site in late Spring or early Summer 2008. It will involve upgrading the existing drainage system and installing a settlement pool in the south east corner. These works should take between ten and 12 weeks. We are not expecting the work to cause any disturbance or inconvenience to residents living in the area.
Since the closure of the site we have seen wildlife move into the area and it has become something of an unofficial “nature reserve.” We need to protect this valuable asset and see how it may become accessible to the public. Although the site is likely to remain fenced off we are looking at ways in which the public can visit the site which will also protect this valuable asset which is unique within Wolverhampton.
