About the Wolverhampton Environmental Awards

The Wolverhampton Environmental Awards scheme gives prestigious recognition and reward to outstanding projects which have made a real contribution to the city's environment and improved the quality of life for people who visit, live or work in the city.

There are the main awards for entries by architects, builders, developers or owners, and from 2006 a new category of award was launched called the People's Choice.

The People's Choice gives city residents the opportunity to nominate organisations, groups, individuals or projects whose achievements have resulted in an outstanding contribution to environmental quality in the city, and enhanced the life of its residents.

Wolverhampton Environmental Awards were first held in 1992 to encourage good design and improve environmental quality.

They are held every two years. The scheme is sponsored by Wolverhampton Partners in Progress, an initiative backed by the city's businesses, media, retailers and the council which aims to show Wolverhampton at its best.

Previous main award winners have included:

  • Molineux Stadium
  • Chubb Building
  • St. Leonard's Rectory
  • University of Wolverhampton
  • Pendeford Oasis Project at St. Paul's School and Community Church.

The overall People's Choice Award winner in 2006 was 43 Broad Lane, Bradmore for a garden open under the National Gardens Scheme.

A Commendation was given to CLC Bookshop, 69 Worcester Street for restoration of shop front.
