Planning policies for business development

Planning policies for business support the growth and expansion of indigenous firms, as well as attract new businesses into Wolverhampton. Anyone proposing to alter, extend, build or change the use of business premises must apply for planning permission for development from the local authority.

The Unitary Development Plan contains a number of planning policies which guide the location, type and design of industrial, office and retail development in Wolverhampton. These include policies on warehousing, design standards, changing the use of business premises, the expansion of existing premises, catering outlets and shops in local centres.

The Council has also prepared supplementary guidance providing advise to applicants on business, industrial and warehousing development, and outdoor advertisements and signs. These can be found on the Council's planning guidance web page.

The Office of the Deputy Prime Minister has prepared a booklet for developers and businesses, Planning Permission - A Guide for Business, that provides information on the general planning principles and the procudure for making a planning application.

For further information about planning policies for residential development contact the Planning Policy team. For information about planning applications contact the Development Control team.
