Sustainability Charter
Summary of Wolverhampton Partnership Sustainability Charter
The Partnership's Vision for a sustainable Wolverhampton:
"A City where social well-being is supported by a vibrant and diverse economy and sustained by a safe and healthy environment."
Summary
The Principles within the Charter are grouped to reflect the main 'pillars' of Sustainability. It is important to note that they must be considered in relation to each other, and not in isolation.
By adopting the Charter we encourage development in Wolverhampton that seeks this balance, leads to a better quality of life for all and ensures a more sustainable future for the City:
In respect of the economy, we encourage development that:
- Ensures we consider environmental and social impacts in relation to our activities.
- Meets our needs as locally as possible and does not violate human rights or transfer our problems elsewhere.
- Promotes social inclusion, the eradication of poverty and allied disadvantage.
- Increases high quality employment opportunities in Wolverhampton and supports a vibrant economy.
In respect of the environment, we encourage development that:
- Ensures everyone can live, work, study and play within a high quality environment with rich biodiversity.
- Reduces dependence on inefficient and environmentally damaging forms of transport and provides high quality and attractive alternatives.
- Reduces waste and pollution and ensures we use our resources wisely.
In respect of society, we encourage development that:
- Eliminates discrimination and promotes tolerance and understanding.
- Ensures good access to responsive and appropriate services.
- Reduces anti-social behaviour and promotes a caring and involved attitude.
- Genuinely involves people in local decision-making and provides support to community groups and local democracy.
- Encourages our organisations and institutions to be both transparent about, and accountable for, their activities
