Social Principles
Individually and collectively we will:
Principle 17
Promote the elimination of discrimination and disadvantage in all its forms, such as that based on race, colour, gender, sexual orientation, disability, age, religion, language, and national, ethnic, social origin or parent / carer responsibility.
We will actively encourage and support mutual understanding and co-operation between groups, peoples, cultures and countries.
Principle 18
Encourage the provision of good and equal access to services, facilities and affordable fresh foods. We will ensure that our services are genuinely responsive to the needs of the community.
Principle 19
Promote affordable, healthy and energy efficient homes for all.
Principle 20
Actively encourage employees and volunteers to conduct their activities in an environmentally, socially and economically responsible manner.
Principle 21
Promote, and where appropriate implement, the development of travel plans aimed at reducing the need to travel or, where that need cannot be reduced, to move to the least damaging mode of transport available.
Principle 22
Support social accord through both informal means (eg Neighbourhood Watch etc) and formal (eg policing) to enable Wolverhampton’s citizens to live without fear of crime and persecution.
We will be proactive in ‘designing out’ crime in new developments and activities, while promoting a high level of confidence in public safety.
Principle 23
Engage widely with people to ensure that all citizens and interested groups have access to information and an opportunity for meaningful participation in decision making.
Principle 24
Encourage people of all ages to become involved in public affairs, community activities and to care for the area.
We will protect the rights to freedom of opinion, expression, peaceful assembly, association, and dissent.
Principle 25
Provide support for, or facilitate, community groups giving people access to a wide variety of forms of association particularly for specific sections of the community, such as older people, children and young people.
Principle 26
Support local, regional and global civil society, strengthen democratic institutions and processes at all levels, and provide transparency and accountability in governance.
