There are many sources of information about how the historic environment is looked after available on the internet. Below are just a sample of the web sites available that provide information and advice on the conservation of the historic environment. Many include links to other useful web sites. www.archaeologists.net – Institute of Field Archaeologists – professional organisation for archaeologists in the UK. Includes advice on how to commission archaeological work from consultants including evaluations, building surveys and garden archaeology.
www.architecture.com – Royal Institute of British Architects - contains details on how to find an architect to advise on works to historic buildings plus information about architecture and how to become an architect.
www.britarch.ac.uk – Council for British Archaeology – principal UK wide web site about archaeology in Britain including useful fact sheets on various aspects of planning and archaeology and advice on careers in archaeology.
www.buildingconservation.com – useful site containing details of suppliers of conservation products and specialist contractors. Also useful articles and information on conservation courses.
www.cabe.org.uk – Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment – public body devoted to improving the quality of design in buildings, streets and open spaces.
www.civictrust.org.uk – Civic Trust - leading charity devoted to enhancing the quality of life in Britain’s cities, towns and villages. Site includes information on the Civic Trust Awards, Heritage Open Days and Civic Trust campaigns aimed at bringing about an ‘Urban Renaissance’.
www.culture.gov.uk – Department for Culture, Media and Sport – extensive site covering the work of this government department – includes information on the historic environment and architecture and design. Also details of recent and current consultation documents.
www.english-heritage.org.uk – English Heritage - information on protection of the historic environment in England. Also details of sites open to visitors.
www.gardenhistorysociety.org – Garden History Society - promotes the study, protection and conservation of historic parks and gardens of all periods. Also keeps a register of research into historic landscapes.
www.georgiangroup.org.uk – Georgian Group - promotes the enjoyment and understanding of buildings, parks and gardens of the Georgian period in England and Wales. Also produces a number of useful publications on the renovation of period properties.

www.hlf.org.uk – details of types of grant aid available from the Heritage Lottery Fund, how to apply and lists of current projects in the region.
www.icomos-uk.org – International Council on Monuments and Sites - organisation concerned with the conservation of the world’s cultural heritage.
www.ihbc.org.uk – Institute of Historic Building Conservation – professional institute representing conservation professionals in the public and private sectors.
www.localhistory.scit.wlv.ac.uk/home.htm – Wolverhampton History and Heritage Society – covers many aspects of the heritage of the city including historic buildings. Society organises a series of events throughout the year.

www.communities.gov.uk – Communities and Local Government – extensive site on the work of this government department including information on planning and urban policy.
www.spab.org.uk – Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings - national pressure group fighting to save old buildings from decay, demolition and damage. Web site contains technical advice on traditional methods of repair.
