Food safety alerts

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) operates a system to alert food authorities and the public to national and regional problems concerning food.

Where a problem has occurred food is normally withdrawn voluntarily by the food companies concerned. In more serious cases withdrawal of the food involves the food companies working with central Government and food authorities and gives rise to a food alert being issued.

Often food companies advertise in national newspapers to help alert consumers to the problem.

To view the latest Food Alerts visit the Food Standards Agency website.
