Under the provisions of the Guard Dogs Act 1975 there are three main requirements:

  • A guard dog shall not be used at a premises unless there is some person capable of controlling the dog present and the dog is either under their control or secured so it cannot roam freely
  • The dog handler will keep it under control at all times except while another handler has control of the dog or when the dog is secured so that it cannot roam freely
  • A guard dog will not be used unless a warning notice is clearly exhibited at each entrance.
