Wolverhampton 14-19 Development Team
Wolverhampton’s future prosperity rests on today’s young people developing the skills and knowledge required in the 21st century.
Our aim is to develop learning opportunities which meet the needs of all young people in Wolverhampton and lead to improved qualifications, skills, and the abililty to learn longer throughout life. In short, we will offer more and different learning opportunities to improve the life chances of young people in the City.
So far, this approach has already contributed to a significant improvement in the number of students gaining 5 good GCSE’s, and the number staying in education beyond school leaving age. Students over 16 have access to 60 A-level/Higher BTEC courses and over 200 enrichment activities, while over 1 in 5 learners in Year 10 are now enjoying one day per week on Work-Based Learning.
We have further work to do, for example, developing services to improve outcomes for those currently not achieving 5 good GCSE’s, as well as improving attainment at level 3. We are also piloting new curriculum models as a forerunner to the proposed national Diploma to be introduced from 2008.
