Teaching taster courses
Wolverhampton LEA works closely with the Black Country School Improvement Partnership and the University of Wolverhampton to offer free one week taster courses for people interested in Teaching.
Courses are funded by the Teacher Training Agency and aims to encourage interest from:
- men seeking to enter primary teaching
- members of the Black and Minority Ethnic Community
- individuals seeking to teach 'Secondary shortage subjects' including Mathematics, Science, Modern Foreign Languages, Information and Communications Technology including Design and Food Technology.
Taster courses provide an opportunity to give all relevant information regarding teaching as a career and training requirements, including how to find out where training is available and grants available for teacher training.
The taster courses are delivered by Local Education Authorities across the Black Country. During the course you will spend up to three days in a primary or secondary school - depending on the phase you wish to teach.
This will give you the opportunity to talk to teachers, observe effective teaching and get up to date information about the current developments in education.
The taster course provides opportunities to:
- talk to admissions tutors from local providers about teacher training courses
- find out about flexible routes into teaching including the graduate and registered teacher Programmes
- get information about grants available for initial teacher training courses.
At the end of the course you will receive an your own action plan outlining the next steps after completing the course.
