Wolverhampton Healthy Schools Programme

The Wolverhampton Healthy Schools Programme is a successful project which aims to help schools and educational establishments:

  • Reduce health inequalities
  • Raise standards
  • Promote social inclusion
  • Support children and young people in developing healthy behaviours

Building on the successful national scheme, the local programme works with schools to fulfil and expand upon their Personal, Social, Health, and Economic (PSHE) provision around 4 core themes:

  • PSHE including Sex & Relationships Education and Drugs Education (including alcohol and tobacco)
  • Healthy Eating
  • Physical Activity
  • Emotional Health and Wellbeing

Healthy Schools recognises that schools play an important role in supporting the health and wellbeing of children and young people. Using a toolkit designed to help schools ‘plan, do and review’ health and wellbeing improvements for their children and young people, the team will help schools to identify and select activities and interventions effectively. This approach will ensure schools put in place the most appropriate services and meet the specific needs of children and young people in their area.

As well as working with schools to achieve the wider aims of the programme, the team of specialist advisors are available to assist schools across PSHE related topics by:

  • Providing training to staff, governors and the wider children’s workforce
  • Giving policy guidance and development
  • Create links between partner agencies and schools
  • Delivering the nationally accredited PSHE CPD to education staff and the wider children’s workforce
  • Offer support and workshops at Parent’s Evenings
  • Providing consultation support and data around a range of issues concerning children and young people

The team also works closely with partners from across Wolverhampton to ensure that wider strategies for children and young people are at the centre of their approach. For more information on each of the specialist advisors roles and how to contact the Team, please see the links below:
