How can you become a school governor?
If you care about the education of children, are prepared to listen, read and ask questions, and would like to participate by working as part of a team, then becoming a governor can be an enjoyable and rewarding way to play an active part in your community.
If you are interested you can either:
- talk to the headteacher or another governor of your local school;
- contact the LA's Governors' Support & Advisory Service;
- or complete an Expression of Interest form which can be downloaded in a PDF format by clicking on the icon below.

Complete and return the form to:
Governors’ Support & Advisory Service Children & Young People Wolverhampton City Council Jennie Lee Centre Lichfield Road Wednesfield Wolverhampton WV11 3HT
The first steps
By taking this first step, you could:
- become a parent governor at your child's school;
- be nominated to represent your Local Authority;
- be nominated on religious grounds;
- be appointed for your special expertise or you could represent your local business community.
We believe that a school governing body should reflect its multi cultural society and is committed to having a representative proportion of governors from the ethnic minority communities.
Governing bodies represent local people, with a balance of interests; there could be a role for you at a school nearby.
