Why become a school governor?
Working together in partnership with headteachers and teachers, school governors have a major role helping to build a high quality education service. Many more parents, community representatives, members from the ethnic minority communities and working people from industry and commerce are needed to become school governors.
Who becomes a governor?
Governing bodies are made up of a variety of people, (people like you) who live or work in the area. Almost everyone over 18 is eligible to apply.
What commitment do governors give?
Attendance at full governing body meetings plus additional committee meetings, school visits and training sessions.
What support is available?
The Local Authority runs comprehensive training programmes, including introductory courses for new governors and sessions on specific topics.
