What does Extended Schools offer?

The government has set out a 'core offer' that all schools will provide access to by 2010 as extended services. These include:

Childcare

Access to high quality, affordable childcare at or through the school from 8am to 6pm, all year round (in accordance with the needs of the community)

Varied menu of activities

Access to a varied menu of activities offered beyond school hours, such as study support, activity clubs (for example dance, drama, chess), volunteering etc.

Swift and easy referral

Access to a wide range of specialist support services for children with particular needs (such as speech therapy, behaviour support, child and adolescent mental health services) via a speedy and uncomplicated referral process

Parenting support

Access to a range of support services for parents such as parenting programmes, family learning, guidance and advice, and information at key points in their child’s educational development

Community use

Access for community members and groups to school ICT, sports and arts facilities and adult learning, where possible.
