Inset days

What are Inset days for?

Inset or In-service Training days allow head teachers to bring all their staff together for training purposes.

They allow head teachers to help staff maintain and develop their professional skills and knowledge for whole school development planning.

Who attends Inset days?

On Inset days, the school is only open to staff and the head teacher. Pupils do not attend.

When do Inset days take place?

The timing of inset days are decided by each school, taking into account local circumstances when making arrangements.

Days are timed usually timed for beginning or end of the school holidays to keep disruption to a minimum.

In certain circumstances, schools can close earlier than usual rather than take full days for in-service training.

Inset and early closures take place on the following dates:

  • Edward the Elder Primary [both sites]

4 July 2008

  • Whitgreave Junior

11 July 2008

  • Wodensfield Primary

11 July - 14 September 2008

  • Merridale Primary (Nursery)

18 July - 7 September 2008

  • Merridale Primary (Reception)
  • The above closures at Merridale are due to building works.

    21 & 22 July 2008
