You can find out about school closures at neighbouring councils by visiting Directgov.

Decisions on closures

Any decision to close a school will be made by the Headteacher/Chair of Governors, based on the local circumstances. Closures may have an effect on school transport.

Details of school closures and school transport information will be listed on this page when problems occur.

Details will also be passed to local radio stations.

Winter weather closures

During the winter months, there may be occasions when schools in the city are either partially or fully closed due to extreme weather conditions.

Closures may also occur throughout the year for other reasons including emergency structural repairs, heating failure or flooding.

Prior to 9:30am we advise parents to listen to early morning broadcasts on local radio stations.

Special school closures

It may well be necessary to close Special Schools or withdraw transport before weather conditions become sufficiently bad to warrant the general closure of the schools.

Any such decision will be given full internet, radio and press coverage.

Local radio stations

Schools first inform local radio stations of their decision to close due to bad weather or problems with buildings.

Parents and carers can tune in to early morning broadcasts on the following local radio stations to find out if their school is closed:
