Letting a school building

The majority of schools in the City are able to make available a range of facilities for letting to the general public.

What sort of facilities are available?

Most secondary schools are able to offer large halls, sports halls or gymnasia and a few have swimming pools.

Following a recent Government initiative for Sports and Arts a number of schools including some Primary schools now have improved facilities for dance, drama and sports which are also available for letting.

School premises are usually unsuitable for large social gatherings.

Letting is subject to conditions

Clubs and organisations in particular find schools ideal for regular sporting events and training, meetings and children’s activities.  Letting will be subject to conditions including the need for any association, body, group, organisation or club (sporting or otherwise) to have in place their own Public Liability Insurance at the required level of £5 million limit of liability, prior to the hire of facilities.

Discretion of the Headteacher

The decision to let is at the discretion of the Headteacher and Governing Body of each individual school and that decision has to be made after taking into account the schools own usage and Health, Safety and Security issues.
