Heath and safety

Health and safety in schools and within the Children and Young People's Service is carried out in accordance with Statutory Obligations, Corporate Policy, DfES guidelines and the Local Authority's (LA’s) Health and Safety Policy Statement(under review)

The LA have procedural notes and guidance documents which are shared with all schools and the Service.  These documents are currently being updated with the intention that revised copies will be available at all schools in a variety of formats including electronically.

Training for staff

Training is provided on a range of health and safety issues including but not limited to:

  • Manual handling,
  • Asbestos awareness,
  • Use of ladders,
  • Personal safety
  • Fire safety

Training is delivered to a range of staff including Caretakers, Teachers, Technicians, Newly Qualified Teachers (NQTs), Head Teachers and Governers.

Monitoring is carried out by inspections, questionnaires and scrutiny of accident/incident statistics.

Working with partners

The LA liaises with a range of partners on health and safety related issues such as:

 West Midlands Police

  • Security
  • Crime Prevention
