Condition Surveys

The surveys identify the work necessary to bring premises up to a serviceable state of repair and to rectify breaches of legislation.  Surveys cover all school buildings and external areas on the site.

Each building is assessed element by element, i.e. roofs, windows, flooring, ceiling, sanitary services, mechanical services, electrical services, etc.

Condition is graded

The condition of each element is assessed using the following, recommended, grades:

  • Grade A - Good
  • Grade B - Satisfactory
  • Grade C - Poor
  • Grade D - Bad

Prioritisation

Once the condition of the element has been assessed, priorities are allocated according to the seriousness of the condition:

  • Priority 1 - Urgent work that will prevent a school closure
  • Priority 2 - Essential work required within 2 years
  • Priority 3 - Desirable work required within 3 to 5 years
  • Priority 4 - Long term work required outside the five year planning period
