Asbestos Surveys

The Control of Asbestos at Work Regulations which came into force in May 2004 places duties on building managers to manage the risk from asbestos by:

  • finding out if there is asbestos in premises, the amount and the condition
  • presuming materials contain asbestos, unless there is strong evidence that they do not
  • making and keeping a record of the location and condition of asbestos containing materials (ACM’s) – called the asbestos register
  • preparing a plan setting out how the risks from ACM’s are to be managed
  • providing information on the location and condition of ACM’s to those who may work in it or could potentially disturb it due to the nature of their work

In response to this legislation the LA has arranged for asbestos surveys to be carried out on all Wolverhampton’s schools.
