Virtual-Workspace

What is the Virtual-Workspace?

The Virtual-Workspace is a new, dynamic web portal for all learners aged 14 to 19.

Developed in partnership with Nord Anglia Education, the Virtual-Workspace is an exciting, one of a kind project aimed at raising attainment levels and helping young people to become confident, independent and motivated learners.

Used by Wolverhampton and Worcestershire LEAs, it is currently being used by approximately 21,000 learners and 2,000 educators from 58 schools.

A unique virtual learning environment

This unique virtual learning environment will transform the way in which students learn.

In the Virtual-Workspace, young learners each get their own private web space for managing all their schoolwork, homework and hobbies and interests. It offers learners choice, flexibility and information tailored to their preferred learning styles.

For teachers, it offers an opportunity to help lighten workloads and build new skill sets to become an electronically confident teacher.

Virtual-Workspace features:

  • A bank of over 4000 interactive, digital learning materials, supporting the 14-19 curriculum
  • A learner profiling system to allow learners to follow individual pathways through the comprehensive online learning resources
  • An online mentoring service, which includes live communication with human mentors from 8.00am to 8.00pm on weekdays
  • A range of safe communication channels, including messaging, discussion forums and chat rooms
  • Online storage and management of work and interest materials
  • A dynamic facility for teachers to set, send, receive and mark their students’ work online
  • A strong reward points incentive scheme for learners
  • Free online ICT skills training and a 24-hour technical helpline for all users.

For learners and teachers of the 21st century, the Virtual Workspace marks a fresh step forward in education.
