Arts, crafts and media

This area offers a wide range of subjects and media designed to challenge and stimulate your creativity.

Choose from a range of course subjects including:

  • Fashion including:
    • garment making, tailoring
    • pattern cutting and drafting
    • pattern altering
    • hat making
    • machine knitting.
  • Upholstery and soft furnishings including:
    • patchwork
    • quilting
    • gifts
    • card making and soft toys.
  • Textiles including:
    • hand and machine embroidery
    • textile design
    • spinning
    • weaving
    • hand knitting
    • felt making
    • bobbin lace
    • crochet and tatting.
  • Picture framing including:
    • mount cutting
    • 3-d picture sculpture.

Almost all our courses are accredited which means your achievements will be recognised by qualifications which you can use to further your career and employment prospects in Art and Design.

Our courses are validated by OCNWM (Open College Network West Midlands).

Access to Higher Education - Art and Design

The highly successful Access to Higher Education - Art and Design course provides you with an opportunity to produce a portfolio and gain qualifications which may be used to enter employment or a degree course in Art and Design. This course is now expanding to include Music and Video and will be renamed Art and Media.

Enter Arts

The Enter Arts course is designed for graduates or practising artists who need business, management and publicity skills to set themselves up as freelance artists. For further details see course leaflet: D18/D20 Enter Arts. This can be obtained from reception at Old Hall Street.

Art 4 Health

Art 4 Health is a free course in art specially designed for people receiving treatment for mild depression. It's being delivered in partnership with the NHS (National Health Service). Carers can also attend.
