Access to Higher Education
The Access to Higher Education course is designed for adults aged 19 and over. You may have no recent experience of study or no qualifications but would like to prepare for entry to university. If so, this course could be for you.
The course prepares you for studying a degree in the Humanities, Art and Media, and Social Sciences. We also offer options that may lead to careers in nursing, social work, community and youth work, teaching and computing. Although you do not need to have any qualifications to get on the course, we do expect you to be enthusiastic and committed.
You can study over one year (up to 16 hours a week) or spread it over two years (up to eight hours a week). Assessment is continuous throughout the course. Your work will be essays, reports, projects, discussions and presentations? examinations are a relatively small part of the course.
The credits you will gain are awarded by the Open College Network of the West Midlands (OCNWM). These are nationally recognised and will allow you to apply for a university place.
Entry is by an informal interview and an assessment of your current skills in English and Maths.
