Registering a civil partnership

The Civil Partnership Act 2004 came into force on 5th December 2005. It enables same sex couples to obtain legal recognition of their relationship. Couples who form a civil partnership will have a new legal status, that of 'civil partner'.

Notices of intended partnership will be placed on public display for a period of 15 clear days, after which the partnership can be formed. This will allow the first civil partnership ceremonies to take place on 21 December.

Already at Wolverhampton we have a list of couples who have expressed an interest in civil partnerships and who have booked to give their notice of intention.
