Bushbury Crematorium

Temporary restricted service during 2010

A major programme of building work is talking place during 2010 at Bushbury Crematorium.

All the cremators are being replaced and new, environmentally friendly emissions filtration equipment installed to comply with Government legislation.

We are aiming to maintain a service for citizens throughout the period of works and keep any possible closures to a minimum.

Because of this, it does however mean that there will inevitably be a restricted service in place.

For further information or enquiries, contact us at the points below.

About the crematorium

Situated within Bushbury Cemetery, Bushbury Crematorium at Underhill Lane, Bushbury, Wolverhampton first opened in 1954 with one Chapel, and due to increased demand in cremation a further chapel was constructed in 1970.

Through its West and East chapels the crematorium can cater for more than 20 services daily and carries out some 2500 cremations each year.  The facilities and equipment continue to be improved, with the recent introduction of a new reception facility in 2002/3.

The site is accessible for wheelchair users, and toilet facilities are available.

The scattering of cremated remains is available free of charge in the Woodland Garden.  However, there is a small fee if you wish to witness the scattering of the ashes.

Bushbury Cemetery also provides for the burial of cremated remains and memorial schemes continue to be developed at Bushbury and our other cemeteries.

The provision of cremations is regulated under the Cremation Acts and Cremation Regulations and also the Environmental Protection Act 1990 Part 1.
