WORKSTEP (Supported Employment)
What is it?
WORKSTEP is an Employment Service programme run by the council which provides job support to people with disabilities who face barriers in getting or keeping a job, but who can work effectively with the right support.
It enables eligible disabled people to realise their full potential to work within a business environment, giving them, whenever possible, an opportunity to progress into open employment.
Wolverhampton City Council has a 45 place programme which has been accredited by Jobcentre Plus. WORKSTEP can provide support for people with a wide range of physical, sensory, mental health and learning disabilities.

What are the aims?
The aims of Wolverhampton’s WORKSTEP programme are:
- To provide real work opportunities for people with disabilities who at present are not able to work in an open environment.
- To develop, with the right support, the skills and abilities of all WORKSTEP employees to their full potential.
- To work in partnership with the employee and employer at all stages of the programme.
- Where possible, to enable an employee to develop his / her potential to a level which enables them to move from support to open employment.
