Equalities and diversity
Wolverhampton City Council has a long standing commitment to equality, diversity and social inclusion.
The council’s vision is for a city where inequality gaps are closed and where people from all communities live and work together with mutual understanding and respect.
The Council is committed to securing genuine equality of opportunity, whether required by law or not, in all aspects of its activities as an employer and service provider.
The Council recognises that passive policies will not reverse discrimination and disadvantage so it will proactively work with local communities to ensure that barriers to equality are removed.
What is equality and diversity?
Equality is about making sure that people from different groups and communities have the same life opportunities.
It is not about treating everyone the same as they may have different needs to achieve the same outcomes.
Diversity is about recognising and valuing individual differences and raising awareness about them.
