Product safety

The Trading Standards Service is responsible for enforcing product safety laws that apply to a whole range of consumer products.

Certain products (e.g. toys, electrical items, prams, bicycles, upholstered furniture, etc) have specific requirements.

Regardless of whether they are covered by specific regulations or the General Product Safety Regulations, all consumer products that are sold should be safe, including second-hand goods.

Guidance leaflets concerning product safety for businesses are available on the Trading Standards Central website.

For information on the laws that regulate the safety of consumer products, please refer to the Department of Trade and Industry product safety website.
