Fair trading

The Trading Standards Service enforces various 'Fair Trading' laws, the general name given to a host of legislation aimed at protecting consumers from being conned in some way.

The main offences cover:

traders posing as private individuals
traders displaying signs to reduce consumers legal rights
traders using unfair terms and conditions
use of misleading descriptions for goods and services
failing to display prices
use of misleading prices
failing to provide and/or honour cooling off periods (internet, mail order and doorstep sales)
sales of counterfeit items

If you think you have been subject to a scam of some sort or have been treated unfairly, please use our online form to report a rogue trader.
