Animal health

Local Authorities are responsible for the enforcement of animal health and welfare legislation both for domestic and farmed animals.

The legislation covers for example the;

  • Welfare of animals on farms, small holdings or at domestic premises
  • Welfare of animals during transport
  • The identification of animals on farm and during transport
  • The cleansing and disinfection of farm or transport vehicles to prevent the spread of disease
  • The transport and disposal of animal by products

For advice or information on the keeping of animals and the relevant legislation, refer to the Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs.

Guidance leaflets for livestock keepers are also available on the Trading Standards Central website.

Contact details and further information

Please note, at Wolverhampton City Council the Trading Standards Service does not deal with matters concerning Animal Health.
