i54 will be one of the region’s largest and most high profile sites and home to a large number of world-class companies many of whom will want a local workforce.

Access

The site will be easily accessible from Wolverhampton and surrounding areas making it an ideal place to work with on-site facilities which could include a nursery and shops.

Training and opportunity 

Schools, the City of Wolverhampton College, University of Wolverhampton and local training providers are working to ensure that local young people and adults have access to education, skills and training opportunities.

This will enable prospective employees to be in the best position to access the potential 6,000 job opportunities that will become available when companies choose to locate on the site.

The initial demand will be for construction skills and opportunities for the local community to undertake training in this field are already available within a range of organisations operating across the city.

University

The University of Wolverhampton has some of the strongest links with business of any university. A recent funding council survey showed the University provides 57,000 days of education, training and personal development to business organisations.

It is also one of the top five universities in the UK for helping graduates get their first job through the knowledge transfer partnership scheme. It also provides continuous professional development activities.

The City of Wolverhampton College sees a continuous increase in the number of young people choosing to continue there skills development through a vast range of vocational courses that meet the needs of employers.

Key initiatives include:

  • A dedicated employer services team that can provide a responsive and reliable service including recruitment support services, a diagnostic review of organisational; training and development requirements, bespoke and accredited training programmes
  • One of the largest apprenticeship training programmes in the region – supporting over 600 trainees and over 300 employers annually
  • One of the largest providers of training under “Train to Gain” programmes in the region, which allows for training in the work place to meet individual and employer needs.
