Jaguar Land Rover choose i54

Jaguar Land Rover is bringing its new Advanced Engine Facility to i54 South Staffordshire on Wolverhampton’s northern boundary.

They plan to invest £355 million in the UK’s heartland of high-end manufacturing industry.

Why Wolverhampton

Right place, right people, right attitude

Creativity, innovative thinking and sheer hard work have always given Wolverhampton the edge when it comes to technology-driven enterprise.

Some of those successes, all of them proudly made in Wolverhampton, include:

  • The first car to break 200 mph on land
  • One of World War II’s most feared night-fighters,
  • Critical parts of Concorde’s control systems,
  • Heat-exchangers for nine out of ten current Formula 1 cars and
  • Advanced components for the Airbus A380

The fact that Wolverhampton regularly punches above its weight in science and technology is down to the ingenuity and passion of our people. They’re the ones who make things happen.

At the heart of Europe

It wasn’t difficult for Jaguar Land Rover to make a business case for moving here.

Our location at the heart of the UK gives companies access to the motorway network and the West Coast Main Line.

London is only 98 minutes away by train, while in just 40 you could be at an international airport offering 140 services to Europe and the world.

Some 3,000,000 people live within 20 miles of Wolverhampton city centre, while a skilled workforce 144,000 strong supports over 8,500 local companies.

A dynamic economy

Those people work in a broad spectrum of industries, including first and second tier companies supplying global operators in the aerospace, automotive, construction, medical and security markets. There are four Tier 1 companies in aerospace alone.

Thanks to a mix of tailored business support, academic expertise and high quality business accommodation, Wolverhampton has also diversified into food and drink production, professional services and creative and digital media.

The skills to pay the bills

Wolverhampton can tap into the research and development facilities and knowledge base of nine leading universities and an annual pool of 50,000 graduates, 5,000 of whom are currently employed in the aerospace industry.

Jaguar Land Rover is connecting with an existing labour market strong in computer science, design, engineering, manufacturing and technology.

The City of Wolverhampton College is a top three provider of apprentices in the region, while in the past few years the University of Wolverhampton has supported businesses with consultancy, research and development facilities, skills development and knowledge transfer activities worth £25.6 million.

Our promise to you

Our track record in attracting businesses to Wolverhampton and helping them grow is based on over 1,000 years’ experience in innovation, business and trade.

From the warm welcome by local people through to our supportive business environment, we make life very easy for companies relocating here.

But we’re not standing still.  We want to improve our transport infrastructure even further, we’re revolutionising secondary education and we’re always looking for new ways to encourage enterprise.

More about i54

The i54 site is a joint development by Wolverhampton City Council, Staffordshire County Council and South Staffordshire District Council, close to Junction 2 of the M54 and only 3 miles north of Wolverhampton city centre.

i54’s location gives rapid access to British and European markets through the UK motorway network and links to Eurotunnel, the East Coast and Channel ports.

Jaguar Land Rover is the third major international company to select i54.  Work has started on a new facility for aerospace group Moog and laboratory complex for Eurofins, the global leader in food, environment and pharmaceutical products testing, has already passed the planning stage.
