Temporary Event Notice

A Temporary Event Notice can be used to provide a temporary licence for premises that wishes to carry out licensable activities.

Under the Licensing Act 2003 the applicant, who must be aged 18 or over, must submit a Temporary Event Notice at least ten working days  before it is due to start. 

Only the police may intervene on crime prevention grounds to prevent the occurrence of an event at which permitted temporary activities are to take place or to agree a modification of the arrangements for such an event. 

Activities covered

The following activities are licensable by the Temporary Event Notice:

  • The sale by retail of alcohol
  • The supply of alcohol by or on behalf of a club, to or to the order of a member of a club
  • The provision of regulated entertainment
  • The provision of Late Night Refreshment

Conditions

A Temporary Event Notice has the following limitations to it's usage:

  • A personal Licence Holder may have a maximum of fifty Temporary Event Notices per calendar year.
  • Non-licence holders may have up to five Temporary Event Notices per calendar year.
  • Any one premises may have no more than 12 Temporary Event Notices  in any one calendar year.
  • The maximum time that any one Temporary Event Notice can run for is 96 hours, with a gap of no less than 24 hours in between any two Temporary Event Notices.
  • A maximum of 499 people may be in attendance for a Temporary Event Notice  at any one time. This figure includes staff, organisers, stewards etc.
  • The maximum aggregate duration of the periods covered by a Temporary Event Notice at any individual premises must not exceed fifteen days per calendar year.

A Temporary Event Notice may only be given to an individual. This is to say that a organisation or club can not apply for a Temporary Event Notice in the name of the organisation/club. The individual giving the notice is designated as the 'premises user' and will be responsible for the activities within the Temporary Event Notice

Applying for a Temporary Event Notice

To apply for a Temporary Event Notice you need to fill out three copies of the application form.

When you have completed the forms, two copies should be sent to Wolverhampton City Council and one copy should be given to your nearest West Midlands Police station. Address details are given below.
