Wolverhampton City Council and the Local Taxes Division are committed to ensuring that everyone has access to services.
If you have special needs there are a number of services available. An interpreter can be arranged to help you out on the telephone or at the Council Tax and Business Rates Enquiry Counter if your first language is not English.
The following languages can be interpreted:
- Punjabi
- Hindi
- Urdu
- Gujarati

In addition to our own staff who interpret the languages stated above, we also subscribe to the 'National Interpreting Service' - a service which provides:
- Connection to a trained interpreter within 90 seconds
- Access to over 100 languages
- Accurate, confidential and impartial communication through trained professional interpreters, who work to a strict Code of Ethics
To take advantage of this service, contact Local Taxes in the usual way, and we will connect you to the National Interpreting Service who will translate the conversation between us.
We can arrange a sign language interpreter on an appointment basis. Contact Local Taxes if you would like to make an appointment.
Facilities at the Council Tax and Business Rates Enquiry Counter
The Council Tax and Business Rates Enquiry Counter has induction / hearing loops at all enquiry points.
There are two service points designed for wheelchair users or as seated positions.

Enquiries about Business Rates can be made by Minicom on:

Typetalk
Typetalk is a service which enables people with hearing impairment to communicate with standard telephones.
To use the service, you must first be register with Typetalk.
An operator relays the Typetalk message to the person receiving the call.
Large print
Leaflets and correspondence can be sent out in large print for customers with visual impairment. Contact Local Taxes with the information you would like supplied.
Talking bill
If you require, Local Taxes can explain the bill or the letter that has been received. Contact Local Taxes to make arrangements.
