Housing and council tax benefits
Changes to Housing Benefit
Housing and council tax benefits are payments for people with a low income that help towards the cost of their rent and council tax.
The Government has announced a series of measures which will affect the amount of Housing Benefit that can be paid. These changes begin in April 2011 but will be introduced gradually.
From April 2012 non dependant charges will be increased.
From 1 January 2012 there will be a reduction in the Housing Benefit for young, single people under the age of 35 who rent their home from a private landlord.
