Wolverhampton's libraries are supporting this year's event, and will be holding a range of family friendly activities including storytime sessions and craft activities - all with a Guinness Book of Records theme.
Children aged up to 11 are invited to join the challenge at their local library from Saturday (11 July, 2015) to Friday 9 September, 2015, with nearly 30 events taking place throughout July and August.
Once registered, each child will get a Record Breakers starter pack and encouraged to choose at least 2 books to read before their next visit. Each time they return, they will receive goodies and stickers and 2 more books to enjoy, and on their fourth visit they will receive a medal and certificate to say they have completed the Summer Reading Challenge.
There will also be competitions throughout the summer with a chance to win theatre tickets and book tokens.
Councillor Elias Mattu, Wolverhampton City Council's Cabinet Member for Adults, said: "Our libraries have been supporting the Summer Reading Challenge for more than 10 years and it is always very popular with families.
"Children are encouraged to collect rewards, stickers and finally a medal to celebrate their success in reading specially themed books throughout the summer - this year's theme is Record Breakers.
"We've got a wide range of activities taking place across the city, and I'd encourage families to join in the fun. It doesn't matter if they are not yet a member of a library; it's totally free to join and only takes a few minutes."
Cartoonist Laura Howell gets the Summer Reading Challenge underway when she demonstrates some of the tricks of the trade at Pendeford Library from 11.30am to 12.30pm and Central Library from 2pm to 3pm on Saturday 11 July.
And there are further events planned throughout the challenge, including arts and crafts sessions, storytelling with the Dogs Trust and more.
They take place at Ashmore Park Library on 25 August, Bilston Library on 4, 7 and 14 August, Central Library on 27, 28 and 30 July and 5, 7, 10, 11, 14, 17 and 27 August and East Park Library on 4 August.
There are also events at Finchfield Library on 6 August, Long Knowle Library on 18 August, Low Hill Library on 25 August, Pendeford Library on 28 August, Penn Library on 28 August, Spring Vale Library on 4 August, Tettenhall Library on 6 August, Warstones Library on 6 August, Wednesfield Library on 25 August and Whitmore Reans Library on 11 July and 28 August.
