Achievements of learners with disability celebrated at event

Dozens of people with a disability will celebrate education success at an event taking place on Friday (12 June, 2015), ahead of Adult Learners Week next week.

Wolverhampton City Council's Adult Education Service, rated Outstanding by Ofsted in January, runs 26 classes for people with learning or physical disabilities, including art and crafts, flower arranging, cookery, fitness and dance and media and communications.

Around 150 adults with a disability enrolled on courses this year, and their achievements will be celebrated at a celebration at Newhampton Arts Centre on Friday.

Councillor Claire Darke, Wolverhampton City Council's Cabinet Member for Education, said: "We make sure the students are given the help and support they need, with a focus on developing their independent living and life skills.

"Our recent Ofsted inspection commented very favourably on the high level of support we provide and the inclusive nature of classes which helps students to achieve their individual goals.

"I'd like to congratulate all our students on their achievements."
