Inspectors praise care service for people with mental health needs

Inspectors have praised a care service for people with mental health needs in Wolverhampton.

The Care Quality Commission has rated Recovery House, which provides support for people with mental health needs and helps them to regain independent living skills, as "Good" following its recent inspection.

The inspectors said the service provided at Recovery House is safe, effective, caring and responsive, and praised the manager as providing "good leadership". They said the staffing team was passionate about giving people a "personalised service that was tailored to meet each person's individual needs and was of a high quality".

The inspectors found service users to be "positive about how they felt safe and protected from harm", and felt "more confident" about moving into more independent living thanks to the support they received.

Councillor Steve Evans, Wolverhampton City Council's Cabinet Member for Adult Services, said: "This is a very positive inspection of an important service which provides valuable help and support to people with mental health issues in Wolverhampton.

"Recovery House gives people, at a time when they are at their most vulnerable, the respite and rehabilitation support they need to successfully move from nursing or residential care to more independent ways of living, and it is heartening to hear service users speak so highly of it.

"I'd like to thank all the staff at Recovery House for their continued hard work - I know they constantly strive to provide a safe and high quality service and they should be very proud of it."

Over the last 12 months Recovery House has provided residential support to 60 people in a mental health crisis situation, and support in the community for over 70 more. Some have gone on to live independently, while the support others have received helped prevent admission to hospital.

Recovery House is managed by Wolverhampton City Council. The inspection was published last week and is available by visiting the Care Quality Commission website.
