The Funeral of Sir Jack Hayward OBE

Sir Jack Hayward
Sir Jack Hayward

Wolverhampton City Council is proud to be supporting Wolves in organising the funeral of Sir Jack Hayward OBE - a freeman of the city - which takes place on Tuesday February 3 at 2pm.

The service will take place at St Peter's Church in the city centre, but due to the large numbers of mourners expected, attendance in the church is by invite only.

We know there will be many people who want to come and pay their respects, therefore a number of arrangements have been put in place to ensure the public can say a final farewell to this great man. This includes road closures so people can safely line the route of the funeral courtege and the service itself will be broadcast on a big screen in Queen Square.

• The Fan Zone at Molineux Stadium will be open from 9:00am until 1:00pm, with Sir Jack's book of remembrance still available for signing. The Wolves Museum will also be open between these times and will be free on a first come, first served basis (no advance booking) on the day.

• The funeral cortege will depart from the trackside in front of the Billy Wright Stand, Molineux at 1:30pm, with the north side of the Billy Wright Stand open (accessed via Turnstile Block 8 ONLY) to the general public. Gates will open at 12:30pm. The Club hopes as many people as possible will make the trip to see Sir Jack leave Molineux for the final time.

• Prior to exiting Molineux, the funeral cortege will pause to allow people to exit the stadium and to take up a position on Waterloo Road or to head to Queen Square in the City Centre.

• The funeral cortege will then - fittingly - proceed along 'Jack Hayward Way' and onto Waterloo Road, before pausing briefly in front of the Billy Wright Stand.

• The funeral cortege will continue along Waterloo Road, across the ring road, before turning left onto Darlington Street, and onto Queen Square towards St Peter's Collegiate Church.

• The route of the funeral cortege will be closed whilst the journey to St Peter's Collegiate Church is underway and Queen Square will be shut to traffic between during the duration of the funeral service.

The Ring Road at its junction with Waterloo Road will also be shut in both directions
