Hundreds of fitness fans expected at Super Saturday

Free fitness classes run by a top instructor from global fitness phenomenon Les Mills take place this Saturday (10 January) during an open day to launch WV Active - the new name for leisure in Wolverhampton.

The 'Super Saturday' event at WV Active Aldersley, formerly known as Aldersley Leisure Village, runs from 9.30am to 12.30pm.

Organisers are expecting hundreds of people to attend the sessions. The Mayor of Wolverhampton, Councillor Mike Heap, will officially launch WV Active.

Wolverhampton City Council is transforming its leisure centres through the creation of WV Active which incorporates Aldersley, Bert Williams in Bilston and Central Baths.

New membership packages, with no contract and no joining fee, offer unlimited gym, swimming and fitness classes by Les Mills instructors.

The Les Mills programme has millions of followers around the world and operates in more than 80 countries. Saturday's open classes will be led by top international Les Mills instructor Kate Slee.

People will be able to have a go at 3 different Les Mills classes at the open day: Bodypump - a lightweight barbell class to sculpt, tone and strengthen the body. Bodybalance - a yoga, tai chi and pilates workout that builds flexibility and strength and Bodyattack - a sports inspired cardio workout for building strength and stamina.

Councillor Elias Mattu, cabinet member for leisure and community, said: "Many people will have made a new year's resolution to get fit and healthy and WV Active will help them to achieve that. We are totally changing the way we run our leisure centres giving people great value memberships for unlimited use of our facilities.

"Saturday's event is totally free and all about people being able to find out more about WV Active generally and our Les Mills exercise classes specifically. All you need to do is book your place and come along for free to have a go at these amazing sessions that will be led by one of Les Mills' top instructors who teaches all around the world."
