Finishing touches to be put to Wednesfield's new hub

The finishing touches will be put to the new Wednesfield Community Hub next week, with Wednesfield Library being temporarily suspended while the work takes place.

The hub, one of a number of similar facilities which will be opening around the city this year, will bring together a range of services under one roof.

It is being developed at the present home of Wednesfield Library and Wednesfield Community Centre on Well Lane and will offer improved facilities such as a larger community hall, new refreshment area and better children's library.

There will also be information services and self service facilities enabling people to borrow and return books both during and out of the library's staffed opening hours.

With work on the hub nearly complete, Wednesfield Library will be temporarily suspended from Monday 10 March, 2014, to Wednesday 19 March, 2014, inclusive to enable contractors to install new furniture and computers and relocate the existing library counter. Please note, Wednesfield Community Centre is open as normal.

The new Wednesfield Community Hub is scheduled to open its doors for the first time on Thursday 20 March, 2014.

Councillor Elias Mattu, Wolverhampton City Council's Cabinet Member for Leisure and Communities, said: "The new hub will give the people of Wednesfield the chance to access a wide range of community services from under one roof, and I'm delighted that customers will be able to experience it for themselves for the first time very soon.

"However, before the hub opens we need to carry out a few finishing touches within the library area, and as this could be quite disruptive to customers we have decided to temporarily suspend the library while this work takes place. We would like to apologise for any inconvenience this may cause."

While the library is suspended customers are reminded that they are able to use any other library in the city - the nearest branches are Ashmore Park and Central Library - while items can also be renewed online at Libraries or by calling 01902 552500.
