Bantock House Museum will be the setting for a diabolical murder next month - and wannabe Miss Marples and Hercule Poirots are being invited along to help crack the case.

Members of the Friends of Bantock House Museum are holding a 1930s style Murder Mystery Evening at the popular council run venue, with suspects aplenty supplying the clues.

Bantock House Museum curator Helen Steatham said: "Our current Agatha Christie Exhibition, which runs until 19 January, 2014, has been really popular with visitors and this murder mystery evening promises to be a fitting conclusion.

"A murder will be announced while visitors are enjoying cocktails and canapés, and they'll then be guided around the house where they'll be able to eavesdrop on conversations between the potential suspects.

"They'll be invited to put forward their suggestions about who the murderer is over coffee and madeleines and see whether they have come to the same conclusion as the investigating detective."

The Murder Mystery unfolds on Saturday 18 January, 2014, from 7pm to 9pm. Tickets are £19.35 per person, which includes refreshments and is also a clue to the year the murder is set in - visitors are invited to come dressed in 1930s style costume if they wish. Tickets are available from Bantock House Museum on 01902 552195.

The murder mystery evening is the last in a series of events that have complemented the Agatha Christie Exhibition. Other themed events have included lunchtime talks and vintage teas, and Helen added: "With members of our Friends group, staff, volunteers and members of the Central Youth Theatre taking part it's a great opportunity to come together and mark the fantastic legacy of Agatha Christie, the Queen of Crime."
